A HUGE thank you to artist/speed painter Stephanie Burke for an AWESOME performance during Fine Arts Day! Our students were so excited to watch her work in action! We now have her piece of Albert Einstein to remind us of the importance of imagination as well as a collaborative mural that students will be completing. Both pieces will eventually be hung in the library! Select 8th grade students from Rockingham Middle School visited the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh on Friday, November 13. On this trip, students were given a tour through the special exhibition, The Worlds of MC Escher: Nature, Science, and Imagination by a museum docent. After viewing the gallery, students participated in a studio experience where they were able to use the process of linoleum printmaking to create a piece that relates to one of Escher’s reoccurring themes of bioluminescence. Before departing, 8th graders also had a chance to view the impressive work of contemporary painter, Kehinde Wiley. All of the work viewed and discussed throughout the day correlates to the assignment that students are completing in class which truly made this experience valuable and exciting! |
